Volume delta, CVD, and footprint data

A delta reading is only as specific as the data behind it. Start with the source.

Delta and CVD describe related views.

Volume delta describes a signed difference between buy-side and sell-side volume under a particular classification method. Cumulative volume delta accumulates those signed readings across a chosen window or reset period.

The label alone does not tell you how the volume was classified. Two indicators called “CVD” can use different inputs, resets, and weighting, so their numbers may not be directly comparable.

Elite CVD: an OHLCV estimate.

The free Elite CVD indicator estimates buying and selling pressure from candle structure and volume. Wick attribution and relative-volume weighting are part of that model.

Its weighted units are not a literal count of contracts traded at bid and ask. Treat it as a structural pressure estimate, and read its resets and confirmed-pivot lag before interpreting a divergence.

Institutional: an explicit data ladder.

Native footprint

TradingView’s available footprint data, classified from intrabar price movement.

Intrabar reconstruction

A reconstruction from lower-timeframe bars when supported data is available.

Structural delta

A model-based pressure estimate beneath the other tiers.

MIZAN’s dashboard and webhook payload identify the active tier. When native footprint is available, the reconstruction is rescaled to its totals so the tiers use a consistent scale.

Consistent scale does not make the sources identical. A reconstruction and a structural estimate retain their own limits.

Read the access requirement first.

TradingView’s native footprint request requires Premium or Ultimate. An automatic fallback does not remove the platform requirement of a script that requests native footprint data.

Institutional compatibility should be established for your plan before subscribing. The Institutional section of the guide explains the source labels and controls.

What you should not infer.

Native footprint classification from intrabar price movement is not a guarantee of exchange tick-by-tick aggressor identification. Historical granularity can change, and sparse intrabar data weakens a reconstruction.

Inspect the source, its availability, and its resolution before comparing readings. Then assess whether that additional evidence helps your own review process.
